Category: Events Notices

Edmonton – The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, the Honourable Nathan Cooper, will host a ceremony in the Legislature rotunda on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, beginning at 12 p.m. to recognize the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day that promotes the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.

“All Albertans have the right to participate fully in our society, yet persons with disabilities continue to face barriers to inclusion,” said Honourable Nathan Cooper, Speaker of the Alberta Legislative Assembly. “Collectively, we must accommodate people of all abilities by increasing accessibility, empowering all people to reach their full potential and ensuring a more inclusive society.”

The event will recognize four of the 2024 Alberta International Day of Persons with Disabilities award winners and will include remarks from: Honourable Jason Nixon, ECA, MLA, on behalf of the Premier of Alberta; Ms. Marie Renaud, MLA, on behalf of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition; and the award recipients.

The public is welcome to attend in person. The event will also be live streamed on assembly.ab.ca and on the Legislative Assembly’s Facebook, X and YouTube channels.

An American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter and a Communications Access Realtime Translation (CART) captioner will support this event. The live stream is closed captioned.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly. Please visit un.org/en/observances/day-of-persons-with-disabilities for more information.
