Visitor Safety Is a Top Priority

The Alberta Legislature Building and Grounds and the Queen Elizabeth II Building are open to the public for registered visits. Please note that there are security protocols and screening in place to protect all who work in or visit the buildings and grounds.

Alberta sheriffs provide a safe and secure environment for all people at the Alberta Legislature Building and Grounds with their 24-hour presence on-site, including the monitoring of help phones with cameras that are located throughout the Legislature Grounds.

Please take your time navigating the area.

Legislature Protocols

When visiting the Legislature Building allow additional time for security screening. Please also plan to follow the following protocols.

  • Footwear is required; casual dress is acceptable.
  • Please refrain from displaying political messages.
  • Do not bring parcels, signs, banners or food and beverages into the building. 
  • Demonstrations are welcome on the grounds and are prohibited inside.

Chamber Gallery Protocols

Visitors will be asked to check mobile phones, cameras, recording devices and briefcases with security on the fifth floor prior to entering the public galleries. 

To ensure Alberta’s elected representatives can carry out their important work on behalf of Albertans, please enter and leave the Chamber as quietly as possible. Do not applaud or call out during the proceedings.

Access to the galleries is limited to invitees during special events and ceremonies.

Committee Protocols

The committee rooms, located on the second floor of the Queen Elizabeth II Building, have public galleries.  Members of the public wishing to attend meetings must register with security on the main floor and, in exchange for a piece of identification, will receive a visitor pass for the second floor. 

Check the committee’s page for meeting details prior to arrival.

Please note that food is not permitted in committee rooms.

Legislature Building Tours:

  • Wednesday to Friday - 3 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday - 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., and 2 p.m.

Visitor Centre:

  • Wednesday to Sunday - 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Capital Gifts:

  • Monday to Friday - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday - 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Times may vary during holidays, special events and facility maintenance.
