Sarah Elmeligi was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Banff-Kananaskis on May 29, 2023.
She is currently a member of the Standing Committee on Alberta's Economic Future.
From 2020 to 2023 Member Elmeligi operated her own consulting business, Sarah E Consulting, in Canmore, Alberta. Before that, she worked exclusively in wilderness and parks conservation, holding the position of parks facility planner with Alberta Parks and senior conservation planner with the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society. She was also the program co-ordinator for the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative in 2007.
Among Member Elmeligi’s successes is an award for the best popular publication from the Alberta Chapter of the Wildlife Society in 2023, and she published an in-depth book titled What Bears Teach Us in 2020.
Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Member Elmeligi has earned a PhD from Central Queensland University as well as a master’s degree from the University of Northern British Columbia and a bachelor of science from the University of Alberta.
She is a fan of any outdoor activity, including camping, backpacking, hiking and Nordic skiing, and she loves to travel both domestically and internationally. Member Elmeligi is married with two stepchildren.
She was the 961st Member to be sworn into the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
